Physical

The stat that decides who wins the shoulder bump and who doesn't.

Physical

Physical is one of the six core attribute categories displayed on every player card in the FIFA series, alongside Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, and Defending. It represents a player's bodily capabilities in duels, aerial battles, and sustained effort across the pitch, and is derived from sub-attributes including Strength, Aggression, Jumping, and Stamina.

On any given card—whether a Bronze squad filler, a Gold regular, a Special edition, an Icon, or a Hero—the Physical rating is shown as a single averaged number in the bottom-right of the card's stat block. Coaches, Ultimate Team builders, and casual players alike use it as a quick gauge of how well a player will hold off opponents in tight one-on-one situations, win headers, and maintain intensity over a full match.

Lore & Background

In the FIFA series, the Physical category has been a constant thread since the franchise's early days, evolving from simple strength values into a multi-faceted rating that captures the full spectrum of bodily dominance on a virtual pitch. A striker with elite Physical will bully defenders in the box, shield the ball with their back to goal, and out-jump centre-backs on set pieces. A midfielder with high Physical will survive repeated tackles, keep pressing for ninety minutes, and win the second ball after a clearance.

The category interacts heavily with other attributes. A player with 95 Pace but 60 Physical will sprint past opponents yet lose the subsequent shoulder-to-shoulder duel. Conversely, a 75-Pace centre-back with 90 Physical may never be beaten in a sprint but will dominate every aerial and close-range challenge. This interplay is a core part of FIFA's tactical depth and a major talking point in Ultimate Team squad-building discussions.

In Ultimate Team, the Physical rating influences how players perform in live matches and SBC (Squad Building Challenge) requirements. Players who excel in this category—often tall centre-backs, physical strikers, or box-to-box midfielders—become sought-after assets in the transfer market, particularly when a Special card release lifts their overall rating and, by extension, their Physical sub-attributes.

In Their Own Story

The stadium lights hum overhead. It's the 87th minute, one-nil, and the ball is whipped into the box from a corner. You've got your 6'4" centre-back, 92 Physical, marking the opposition's fastest winger. The winger sprints in, 96 Pace, but the moment they meet in the air, the game shifts. The centre-back's shoulder drops, the collision sound is a dull thud, and the ball drifts harmlessly over the crossbar. The Physical number on the card wasn't just a stat—it was the reason your keeper never had to touch it. You exhale, click on the next match, and the transfer market is already buzzing about who to buy to keep those duels won.

Reader's Guide

Physical is not a standalone card type but an attribute category printed on every player card in FIFA Ultimate Team. Its value on a given card ranges from the low 50s on Bronze squad players to the mid-90s on elite Gold and Special cards, and into the 97-99 range on top Icons and Heroes.

Acquisition follows the standard Ultimate Team pipeline: open packs (daily, premium, or special-event), complete Squad Building Challenges, earn rewards from Division Rivals and FUT Champions, or purchase directly on the Transfer Market. There is no separate "Physical pack"—the category is simply one of six numbers on every card you open.

In squad building, Physical matters most for positions where duels are constant: centre-backs, holding midfielders, target men, and wingers who need to hold off full-backs. A card with a high Physical rating will feel noticeably stronger in close-range battles, headers, and sustained pressing compared to a same-OVR card with a lower Physical split.

In the community trading culture, Physical-heavy cards are often described as "bully" cards. Traders watch for Special releases (Team of the Week, Team of the Season, etc.) that bump a player's overall and lift their Physical sub-attributes, creating a brief window where the card's market value spikes before the next release cycle resets demand. SBCs that require a minimum Physical threshold (or a minimum OVR that correlates with high Physical) drive secondary-market activity around these players.
